Due to these differences, be sure to use a higher psi at the air cap to achieve proper atomization and an even finish.

How to Measure Viscosity

Measuring viscosity accurately is essential for maintaining consistency and achieving the best results. A Ford #4 cup is a commonly used tool for this purpose. First, ensure the coating is thoroughly mixed according to the manufacturer's instructions. Place the Ford #4 cup over a clean container to catch the fluid. Immerse the cup into the coating and fill it completely. Lift the cup out of the coating and start a stopwatch simultaneously, allowing the coating to flow out of the cup through the orifice. Measure the time it takes for the steady stream of coating to break. The time recorded is the viscosity in seconds.
